FutureDairy has launched a new discussion forum with particular reference to Automatic Milking Systems (AMS) in Australia. The FutureDairy Google Group is an email based discussion group that is open to all farmers and industry representatives that see some benefit in reading and contributing to industry discussions regarding AMS. The group already has some farmers, researchers, manufacturers, dealers and consultants registered. It is anticipated that people will use the discussion forum to become more informed about aspects of AMS that are not obvious to them thereby enabling participants to make more effective decisions on the appropriateness of AMS for their business. It is also our hope that over time farmers will start to learn from each other about aspects of their own systems that require finetuning, by questioning how others do things. In addition to these two key audiences the FutureDairy Google Group is also welcoming "casual onlookers" to gain increased knowledge about aspects of this "new way of farming". If you are interested in joining the FutureDairy Google Group please send an email to the group facilitator: Darold.Klindworth@dpi.vic.gov.au
The FutureDairy AMS Research Farm at EMAI, Camden is currently closed for public access whilst the facility is being upgraded. Site visits will resume upon completion of the development phase at a date to be determined. For further information please contact Dr Kendra Kerrisk on kendrad@usyd.edu.au or (02) 9636 6327. We appreciate your understanding in this matter whilst we install new equipment, modify and reconstruct the dairy, carry out initial testing and train cows.
The FutureDairy project features in the Dairy Research Foundation Annual Symposium. The 2009 Symposium will be held on 16th and 17th September in Camden, NSW.
